CSIC partners with Zero Carbon construction initiative

Launched in March 2021 by the Construction Leadership Council (CLC), CO2nstruct Zero brings together organisations that are demonstrating leadership in relation to carbon reduction, sharing their good practice with others from across the UK construction sector, and providing a set of metrics that enables the sector, quarterly, to collectively measure its progress to Net Zero.

Since its launch more than 50 Business Champions have committed to targeted carbon reduction, and to provide details of how they are achieving this to help those from across the wider sector.

CO2nstruct Zero continues to grow. In the final round of new Business Champions for 2021, 11 organisations have signed up, including The UK Environment Agency as the first client organisation to sign up.

In addition to welcoming these Business Champions, Construction Scotland Innovation Centre and PwC UK have both recently joined CO2nstruct Zero as Partners.

The power of the CLC comes from its ability to reflect and engage with the whole industry. CO2nstruct Zero has provided a standard for the whole industry to get behind, so it is brilliant that one of the sector’s most progressive customers, with a brilliant track record for carbon reduction has chosen to get on board. We look forward to inviting further clients and organisations to join CO2nstructzero in 2022. Andy Mitchell

CSIC’s Impact Director and a member of the CO2nstruct Zero Programme Board As Scotland’s innovation centre for the built environment, committed to supporting the sector to transition to net zero by Scotland’s 2045 target, we are delighted too to join CO2nstruct Zero as a partner. We will be working with the Scottish sector to both increase awareness and support the ways they can adapt their procurement, projects and operating practices to become more sustainable and help the sector reduce its annual carbon emissions in the design, construct, operation and deconstruct cycles.” Lucy Black

The CLC’s mission is to provide sector leadership to the UK construction industry. The expanded CLC has twelve workstreams that operate collaboratively to address the biggest issues facing the sector. Workstreams include skills and inclusion, building safety, Net Zero and business models. The CLC is co-chaired by Lee Rowley MP, Minister for Business and Industry, and Andy Mitchell CBE, CEO of Thames Tideway.

Companies supportive of CO2nstructZero may also become Business Champions to showcase their journey to Net Zero and join up with other organisations across the sector under the CLC banner.

Find out more and apply to be a Business Champion before 14 January 2022, where you can join leading Scottish companies like FES, which completely compensated its carbon footprint for 2019-2020. CSIC is happy to support with any application.
