Built Environment – Smarter Transformation (BE-ST) is Scotland’s national innovation centre for the built. Its mission is to accelerate the built environment’s transition to zero carbon, and does this through a range of innovation, R&D, knowledge exchange and service design programmes. At the heart of this is our Innovation Factory; the UK’s first dedicated digital manufacturing, prototyping, and future skills centre of excellence.    

As a Design and Manufacturing Specialist, you will be the factory supervision lead and be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of staff, visitors, service users and learners within the Innovation Factory. You will receive comprehensive training on our equipment and will oversee the planning and executive of the production process while prioritising health and safety, quality standards including regulatory compliance and maintenance of the factory and its equipment.

With your expertise, you will collaborate with clients, trade organisations, academic partners, and public sector entities, giving them access to advanced equipment and technical knowledge to help support the management of high-impact innovation projects.

Salary:  £36,024 - £44,263 per annum plus annual pay increases each year.

What do we need from you?

We’re looking for someone who’s ready to learn to get stuck into a variety of responsibilities. You’ll also need:

  • HNC, HND or Degree or equivalent experience in a construction/engineering, environmental area, OR professional qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • H&S qualifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH etc.
  • Experience in supervising large-scale testing or prototyping space including client engagement.
  • Awareness and understanding of relevant innovative construction techniques and solutions.
  • Experience in developing and delivering a safe working environment suitable for conducting commercial work, collaborative projects, training and events.
  • An understanding of how Scotland / the UK’s construction sector operates from both a strategic and operational perspective (industry dynamics; supply chains etc.).
  • Experience in managing sub-contractors/trades and service providers.
