PlanBEE Feasibility Study for Edinburgh and South East Scotland
Summary: A collaborative feasibility study exploring how the PlanBEE higher-level apprenticeship model could be adapted for Scotland, with a particular focus on widening participation and embedding EDI throughout the design.
Who it’s for: Learners, Employers, Educators and training providers, Policy & programme teams
What it helps with: Supports the development of an industry-led pathway into design, construction and management, while identifying barriers and enablers for under-represented groups.
Impact: The study will inform a more inclusive, evidence-based model for future built environment skills delivery, learner-persona, and EDI insight to shape next steps.
Construct a Crane: Inclusive STEM Challenge for Schools
Summary: A curriculum-linked STEM challenge inspired by real-world engineering in high-density regeneration and retrofit, helping pupils design, build and test model cranes for net-zero construction scenarios.
Who it’s for: Learners, Educators and training providers,
What it helps with: Builds confidence in STEM, introduces engineering and construction concepts, and supports pupils to explore practical solutions for complex built environments.
Impact: Reached up to 151 schools and 600+ pupils locally. The project strengthens equitable access to STEM and raises awareness of sustainable construction pathways. Field visit to the Orkney Celebration event to gather the rural and island context of this delivery in comparison to the Edinburgh event.
START Skills Hackathon
Summary: A one-day event bringing S3 schools to develop entrepreneurial skills and explore solutions linked to sustainability and the built environment.
Who it’s for: Learners
What it helps with: Building awareness of entrepreneurship, developing sustainability, encouraging creative thinking, teamwork, and hands-on problem-solving while introducing pathways into construction, engineering, and net-zero innovation.
Impact: 85% of participants said the event helped them see how their ideas could become future jobs
Powering Futures – School Challenge Programme 2025/26
Summary: A sustainability-focused school challenge programme designed to prepare young people for careers in the net-zero built environment through real-world, industry-led learning.
