60 Seconds with Meghan

Meet Meghan Ballantyne, the newest member of our team at BE-ST.

Meghan joins us as our new Associate Impact Manager, bringing a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the team. We caught up with Meghan to get to know her a little better; here’s how it went.

What's your career been like up to this point?

After graduating from university, I worked for an R&D tax company, helping UK business owners understand how their innovation activity aligned with funding opportunities.

I then joined a local construction company as a Customer Relations Officer, progressing to Retrofit Manager. Over just five years, I gained experience leading the coordination of multiple decarbonisation, energy efficiency, retrofit and renewable projects, often funded through government programmes.

Most recently, I spent a year at Glasgow City Council as a Project Support Officer within the Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability Team. I supported the delivery of Scottish Government-funded retrofit and decarbonisation programmes, while also coordinating administration for the cross-sector Sustainable Glasgow – Heating and Housing Hub.

What’s your biggest professional achievement?

Nothing intense to pinpoint, but probably more just building a career around an effort to contribute to making the built environment more sustainable.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

The harder you work, the luckier you get. But I haven't been very lucky, so maybe that's still to come lol. The other one is genuinely since I've moved here, and that's 'measure twice, cut once' - if someone else hasn't already stolen this one.

What are your hobbies and interests?

Without sounding extremely boring and basic, I spend a lot of time at the gym. I love my holidays (specifically Ibiza), and although I am blessed with an allergy of gluten, I do love trying new restaurants.

I have a big love for animals, and I have grown up with horses and loads of dogs; this has also meant I have managed to pick up the remit of dog-sitting anytime my friends go on holiday.

What’s your life motto?

Life is short, so enjoy it and say yes more.
