60 seconds with Connor
Meet Connor, our new Associate Impact Manager on our impact team. Connor brings a wealth of experience, but we’ll let you read about it in his own words after we caught up with him to chat about his career so far.
What’s your career been like up to this point?
My career has been built within the construction industry, where I have spent over a decade developing my skills and experience as a joiner. Working across both commercial and private projects has given me a real appreciation for the industry and the people within it. I am passionate about continuing to learn, progress and help shape a more sustainable future for construction.
What’s you biggest professional achievement?
One of my biggest professional achievements has been helping apprentices develop and progress in their careers. I understand the importance of learning from experienced people, and I am proud to have been able to share my knowledge, support apprentices, build their confidence and help them develop the skills they need for their future careers.
What's the best piece of advice you’ve heard?
A great piece of advice I’ve had is “Never stop learning.” The construction industry is constantly evolving, and being open to learning from others, gaining new skills and taking on new challenges has helped me develop both personally and professionally.
What are your hobbies and interests?
Outside of work, I have a strong interest in sports and enjoy following different events and teams. I’m also a bit of a geek when it comes to building and construction. I genuinely enjoy learning about different building methods, materials and how things are put together. My interest in construction doesn’t just stop when the working day ends!
What's your life motto?
"A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new".
This quote reminds me that mistakes are an important part of learning and personal growth. Stepping outside of your comfort zone, taking on new challenges and trying something different can sometimes lead to mistakes, but these experiences help us learn, improve and develop.
