More Homes Scotland - accelerating housebuilding across Scotland

The Scottish Government has announced More Homes Scotland, a new housing agency. This is an exciting announcement and a significant step forward for creating the mechanisms we need to overcome Scotland’s housing emergency which was declared in May 2024. 

The agency has been launched to accelerate house building across Scotland, more quickly and more affordably. It will focus on a number of key areas including large-scale affordable housing, rural and island homes, releasing land, and enabling infrastructure work to unlock stalled sites. It also establishes a closer working relationship with The Scottish National Investment Bank to make better use of private finance to deliver housing. 

This announcement acknowledges that our approach to housing delivery in Scotland needs to change if we are to address the housing emergency. Exploring innovative and transformational approaches to housing delivery has been a key focus of BE-ST since it was launched by Scottish Funding Council and the Scottish Government over ten years ago. We have particularly focused on how modern methods of construction, and local, sustainable materials and products, can play an increasingly important role in speeding up the delivery of the better quality, more sustainable, more affordable homes Scotland's communities need.
