Low Carbon Construction Upskilling Programme

Our world is rapidly evolving, with more focus than ever on environmental protections, sustainability and innovation. The construction sector is gearing up for major change with a particular focus on reducing carbon emissions in order to achieve net zero carbon targets by 2045.

Equate Scotland in partnership with the Built Environment Smarter Transformation (BE-ST) are delighted to offer a 3-day blended immersive and practical learning experience. The aim of the training is to upskill/reskill women in the latest low-carbon construction techniques and who are looking to enter or progress their career in the construction or built environment sector.  Some previous knowledge of construction and/or STEM subjects would be beneficial or if you are interested/aspiring architect, technician, technologist, quantity surveyor, project manager, bricklayer, joiner, stonemason, plumber, plasterer, structural civil, mechanical and electrical serve engineer and so much more. 

 

The sessions will cover knowledge and training in Retrofit, Passivhaus, Digital Construction and Modern Methods of Construction, whilst always considering the Fabric First approach. 

 

On completion of this programme participants will have an understanding of: 

  • Principles of the Fabric First Approach, practical demonstrations of Fabric First Training  
  • Gain hands-on experience to develop their practical skills using the passivhaus and retrofit rigs  
  • Digital construction, through demonstration of current digital techniques and technology available, such as robotics, cobotics, virtual and augmented reality  

 

Day one will be delivered online via MSTeams while days two and three will be delivered in person at BE-ST, covering both theory, interactive learning and practical sessions.  

Lunch and refreshments will be provided on the two practical days at BE-ST.  

All PPE will be provided on arrival to the factory and a full safety briefing will be delivered.  

On completion of this course, participants will be awarded a digital badge.  

 

Day 1: Online 0930-1200 

  • A selection of interactive online learning, taking you through the principles of passivhaus, awareness of retrofit standards and understanding of digital construction.  

Day 2: BE-ST Factory – Practical training 1000-1600 

  • Retrofit & Passivhaus Rigs  
  • Airtightness demo and airtight membrane taping 
  • Industry Speaker  

Day 3: BE-ST Factory – Practical training 1000-1500 

  • Digital Construction  
  • Wiki House  
  • Equate Scotland Session 

 

Dates: 28th, 29th and 30th of August 2023 (3-day course) 

 

Location: Built Environment Smarter Transformation, Unit 3B, Hamilton International Technology Park, 3 Watt Pl, Blantyre, Glasgow G72 0AH 

 

Equate Scotland will pay for hotel accommodation for women who are travelling from further away, please note this is only available for women who cannot reasonably travel to the site from their home. Equate Scotland will also arrange transport to the site (please see address above) and more details will be provided to successful applicants closer to the programme starting date.
